#1078 Cannon Beach Tide Pools

5"x8" | pen and ink

During our trip to Cannon Beach, OR, I sketched Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach. I was using Staedtler pens 0.5 and 0.7 on multimedia paper. I was 3 stories up looking down on the beach. A beautiful day

#1070 Plum Impression

6"x6" | oil on archival gessoboard

Here are some photos below of my process. It has been way too smoky from wildfires, where I live to be able to paint outside this September. The smoke is so thick it is actually harmful to breathe.
It's ok, because I'm bringing the outside in.

I sketched my composition on the board with a palette knife this time.

My original inspiration, freshly clipped from the tree outside, and hung on the wall so I could get good shadows from the sun shining in the window on the right.

#1067 Garden Rosebush

6"x6" | gouache on illustration board

I have painted this rosebush in front of my house several times with oil paints, so I wanted to give it a try with gouache (a matte water media) on archival illustration board. Gouache has a similiar look to oil paintings but has a very matte finish. I use a varnish especially for watermedia when it is dry.

#1058 Heirloom Tomato

6"x6" | oil on archival panel
I'm trying to get back in the groove of the studio, because of our smoky Pacific Northwest Wildfire events. The smoke is at "harmful levels" so I'll just paint inside. Yes, this is all one weird looking tomato.
